The Basics
To join any Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) tuition course you need to have held a valid and full UK/EU driving licence for at least three and a half years, be over the age of 21 and able to read a number plate from 27.5m (90ft).
You will also need a commitment to learning and a desire to work with others, as being a driving instructor is very much a people job. That means keeping calm, maintaining authority and generating trust.
Driving Instructors Course Exams
The ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) exams are in three parts:
Part One - Computer-based Theory and Hazard Perception Tests Part Two - Practical Driving Test Part Three - Practical Test of Teaching Ability
You must pass each part of the driving instructor training course before you can take the exam for the next part. Qualification must be completed within two years of passing the first part.
