Steve’s School of Motoring aims to get you to test standard so you are able to show that you understand and can demonstrate the theory of driving safely. Throughout the practical driving test, your examiner will be looking for an overall safe standard of driving, including when you are carrying out the set exercises.

The Practical Driving Test

Initially, you will undertake an eyesight check before being asked two questions about carrying out vehicle safety checks.

Driving Ability

The driving element of the practical test will last for approximately 40 minutes during which you will be examined on your general driving ability. You will also undertake an exercise (or manoeuvre) including reversing around a corner, turning in the road and reverse parking. You may also be asked to carry out an emergency stop.

Independent Driving

Practical driving tests now include approximately 10 minutes of independent driving. During your driving test you will need to drive independently by following traffic signs and/or a series of directions. The examiner will also show you a diagram of the route. Your Steve’s School of Motoring driving instructor will talk this through with you in more detail.
